Ariana Grande’s Family Drama

Parents can be both a gift (trust fund, high powered lawyers) and a curse (drunken outbursts at your debutante ball, a bad nose you inherit). But for the most part, we put up with them (see again: trust fund) because what other choice do we have? Well if you’re Ariana Grande, you take drastic action. AG admits that she recently had a falling out with her dad and cut contact.

“It’s private, but it happened last year,” she told Seventeen magazine. “It took me so long to be okay with it. The thing that got me there was embracing the fact that that I am made up of half my dad, and a lot of my traits come from him,” she admits. “So much of me comes from my father, and for so long, I didn’t like that about myself.”

Ick, family drama is tres icky but alas, so often unavoidable. So good for AG for ridding her life of toxic people, even if it was her own flesh and blood. Although my icy little hard does break for her a bit knowing that not only is she down one daddy dearest, she’s also recently lost her beloved grandfather. Chin up, Ari, at least you’ve got a #1 hit to cuddle up to.

Do you think that Ariana was right to ice out her own father? Or should family always be given a second (and third and five hundredth) chance?

On a side note, my dears: I happened to tune into 30 seconds of Sam & Cat and I’m completely confused about AG’s character. Is she supposed to be the victim of head trauma? What is going on there?
